About VSAT Communication

VSAT communication refers to the information communication between two or more earth stations using artificial earth satellites as relay stations to forward radio signals. The frequency band used by VSAT communication is also the microwave frequency band, so some people say that it is a special case of terrestrial microwave communication.

To this end, VSAT communication includes two parts, one part is the relay relay station-communication satellite part, and the other part is the terminal station-earth station part.

Ⅰ. What is VSAT communication?

Communication between radio communication stations on Earth (including on the ground and in the lower atmosphere) using satellites as relays.

The VSAT communication system consists of two parts: satellite and earth station.

The characteristics of VSAT communication are: the communication range is large; as long as the radio waves emitted by the satellite are covered, communication can be carried out from any two points; it is not easily affected by land disasters (high reliability); as long as the earth station circuit is set It can be opened (the circuit is opened quickly); at the same time, it can be received in multiple places, which can economically realize broadcasting and multiple access communication (multiple access characteristics).

Ⅱ. What services can VSAT communications provide?

1. Satellite radio and television

The radio and television service is mainly composed of geostationary satellites set up over the equator, first receiving the television signal transmitted by the ground TV station through the satellite ground station, and then forwarding it to the designated area on the earth, and receiving it by the equipment on the ground, providing TV programs directly to the majority of users.

2. Broadband VSAT communication

Broadband VSAT communication uses communication satellites as relay stations to forward high-speed communication services between ground stations.

For broadband VSAT communications, the forward link transmission rate can reach several megabits per second to tens of megabits per second.

3. Satellite mobile communication

Satellite mobile communication is the use of VSAT communication to achieve large-span, large-scale, long-distance roaming and mobile, flexible mobile communication services for global users; it is the expansion and extension of land communication systems, in remote areas, mountainous areas, islands, disaster-affected areas, ocean-going ships and voyage aircraft have unique advantages.

3. Common applications of VSAT communication

VSAT communication is used for remote teaching, satellite TV, disaster prevention and mitigation, field communication, etc.
